Revision of ISO / IEC 17025 in accordance with current requirements for the competence of research laboratories

Grzegorz Wojas

The article presents the general directions of the amendment of the standard concerning the competence of research laboratories.
Current status of work, general analysis of change directions, scope of amendment and discussion of the impact of proposed solutions on quality systems requirements for assessing competence of recognized laboratories were presented as well.
The most important changes concern the approach to laboratory activities – testing, calibration, sampling.
This approach is aimed at process activities, the end result of which is quality, and not the way of performing further activities within the research process itself.
One of the expected results is the minimization of documentation, and the key is personnel competence, decision-making and reliability of the results.
